Basketball legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others were killed in a tragic helicopter crash Sunday.  The accident occured in a hillside near Calabassas, California.  The passengers were travelling to a basketball game.  The helicopter was flying in foggy conditions, which was considered dangerous enough that the local police grounded their helicopters.

Here is a look at the nine people who lost their lives in the crash:

Kobe Bryant

He was an Olympic gold medalist, 18-time NBA All Star and won five championships.  Koby was the league MVP in 2008 and a two-time NBA scoring champion.  In 2018, Kobe won an Academy Award for an animated short called “Dear Basketball.”

Gianna Bryant

Gianna, who’s nickname was “Gigi,” was Kobe’s 13-year old daughter.  Kobe had coached Gianna’s AAU basketball team out of his Mamba Sports Academy facility for the past two years.

John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli and Alyssa Altobelli

John Altobelli was the head baseball coach at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. His wife Keri and their daughter Alyssa were also on board.  Altobelli reported to be a former coach of the Brewster Whitecaps on Cape Cod.

Alyssa Altobelli played on the same basketball team as Kobe’s daughter. In a November Instagram post, Kobe praised her defense in a game.

Christina Mauser

Christina Mauser was a basketball coach at Harbor Day School in Newport Beach, where Kobe’s daughter attended school.

Sarah Chester and Payton Chester

Sarah Chester and her  daughter Payton, a teammate of Gianna, were on also on board.

Ara Zobayan

The helicopter was piloted by Ara Zobayan. He received his commercial pilot certificate in 2007. according to the FAA.
