Somedays I’m interested in whats going on with politics and other days I could care less.
The days I usually care are the days I’m called ‘uneducated,’ ‘privileged,’ ‘unwoke,’ and ‘insensitive.’ Those are my very favorite days – said NO ONE ever. I’ve come to the conclusion that if you differ in opinion from someone then you MUST be an idiot and usually that idiot is me. I’ve never thought that someone who differs in opinion from me is any of the things I’ve listed but if, God forbid, I disagree then ya I’m uneducated.
Can someone please define uneducated? Because last time I checked I did all the schooling that the federal government requires of children under the age of 18. I then went on to pay for a secondary degree in higher education and get my Bachelors Degree from Oregon State University. I do my own research on issues and draw my own conclusions based on my morals, convictions and education. So, someone please tell me HOW I’m educated here?
Define privileged. I’m a citizen of the United States which I get automatically makes me one of the most privileged humans on the planet. What I don’t understand is how another citizen of the same country can call me that in a disagreement… As if THAT person isn’t privileged either? Even the poorest of people in this country are still more privileged than anyone else in the world. On a global stage we are all privileged. Why is that a valid argument?
Unwoke… Okay. This one gets me. Here is the definition of ‘woke’ : alert to injustice in society, especially racism. The term is polarizing. It groups an entire race of people WHICH at the core is also racist. I see the issues in this country when it comes to racism – please don’t misuse this word to prove your point.
And insensitive. Hmmm. AKA political correctness. Or in most cases – hurting someone’s feelings. While I don’t intend to purposely hurt someone’s feelings and while I do think that there are phrases we need to reexamine we can’t just go around making sure everyone’s feelings are okay. My truths and your truths will probably be different. When I speak my truths and they hurt someone’s feelings I cannot alter my truth to accommodate your feelings. It would alter my truth. Should you be jerk about it? NO! But I can’t tippy toe around my truth while the other person in the conversation calling me ‘insensitive’ gets the freedom to speak their truth.
This brings me to the conclusion that in today’s world being a young conservative republican female can be a tough thing. I am in the minority especially in the PNW. Let’s agree to disagree and don’t insult me for having a differing opinion.
