Darryl Worley’s New Song Is Awesome
Darryl Worley’s new song, “Have We Forgotten” is awesome, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting that.
We can all feel the perilous position that our country is in. The chasm between people is growing, and even enjoying that most-American of traits called optimism, I find it hard to see a way out of it. As he says in the lyrics of this song, “I ain’t pointing any fingers, hell I’m guilty too,” we are all doing this tribalism thing, and if we can’t turn it around, we’re headed for an incredibly uncomfortable reality. I’m doing it. You’re doing it. We’re ALL doing it. I haven’t met anybody in a long time who is truly walking the line and trying to “see both sides.”
And I think that’s the reason why this song resonates so well… it doesn’t offer solutions… but it DOES offer direction. Maybe there’s no way to completely heal the rifts we’re creating, but maybe we can close them a little bit. Maybe there’s a way to stem the divide. I don’t know what it is, and this song doesn’t either… but maybe we all need to take a self-oriented, even-handed look at how we’re participating in the divergence.
I need to more than most. I am finding myself more stubbornly ensconced in my ways than ever before, and furthermore, even further convinced that I’m right in my views. What arrogance that is… right? What decent person would hold that view? That my way is right and there can’t be another way? Ugh. Even saying it out loud is anathema to me.
At any rate… listen to the song. Music has a way of touching people, and I’m touched by Darryl Worley today.
