Because going anywhere and doing anything was kind of a pain during this pandemic, the Oregon DMV has been giving three-month grace periods on getting your tags updated on your car, or getting your driver’s license renewed.  As of New Year’s Eve, that is going away.  In 2022, you will no longer have the grace period, and you are expected to keep your documents and plates up to date.

The reason is the vast backlog that DMV was clawing through has been resolved, and DMV is now able to process things as they were at pre-pandemic levels.  You are still encouraged to go to DMV2U to do as much as you can online, but if you plan to visit a branch location, half of the interactions will be by appointment, and the other half on stand-by.
