For a while in country music, we had a nice little string of “cute” songs.  I’d call those songs with clever music and a lot of simple wordplay and a nice easy concept.  Songs like Brad Paisley’s “Online” come to mind.  Chris Janson’s “Buy Me A Boat” is another.  They’re just…  cute.  There’s not really a better word for them.  Often, they hit big, then flame out, and then you pretty much stop hearing them for a while.

So, the question is…  what do you think of songs like that?  Do they have a place in your playlist?  Do you prefer something like Zach Bryan’s “Something In The Orange” which is a heavy, dusky song with concepts of the heart and heartache.  Or do you prefer the rock songs like “Get This Thing Started” by Jason Aldean?  Songs with a driving beat and a party message?

Or is there no right answer?  Do they all belong?

Personally, I absolutely adored this song.  It’s a song about drinking, sure, but it’s clever.  It’s such a simple wordplay that I’m surprised nobody else has done it before.  Half of me wants X, and the other half does too?  That seems unoriginal, but I can’t say I’ve ever heard that before.

Give the song a listen.  See what you think.
