If you have furbabies in your home, be aware there is a salmonella outbreak happening with doggie treats. Right now there is a nationwide warning and recall of dog treats from earlier this month, and it turns out a related Salmonella outbreak has expanded to 27 states, health officials say.
At least 93 people have contracted salmonella from handling pig ears sold as dog treats, which have been found to be infected with the bacteria, officials at the Centers for Disease Control said Of those 93 cases, 48 occurred after Pet Supplies Plus issued a recall for the treats.
According to the company, the potentially infected pig ears have been distributed to stores all over the country. Officials say customers who purchased pig ears from a Pet Supplies Plus store should throw them away.
