Eric Church takes country music to task on his latest track, “Stick That in Your Country Song.”

Rolling Stone calls the single “furious” and “riveting” as Church demands that the genre start taking on tougher topics like poverty, veterans, drugs and guns.

In the chorus, Church seems to challenge his fellow artists to “stick that in your country song, yeah / Take that one to #1, yeah / And get the whole world singing along.” By the second verse, his tense vocals have grown into a full-throated rage as he growls, “Rock me hard, stop my heart / Blow the speakers out of this car.”

The song, co-written by Jeffrey Steele and Davis Naish, is Church’s first track off his upcoming album, the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2018’s Desperate Man.
