Late last year and earlier this year, Tami Combs spent almost $3,000 on tickets to see Elton John, Chicago, The Rolling Stones, and Sturgill Simpson in concert. Those shows have now been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Combs can’t get her money back. Why? Because, as The New York Times reports, Ticketmaster used to offer refunds “if your event is postponed, rescheduled or canceled,” but recently changed the language on its website to specify that cancellation is the only way for a purchaser to get their money back.

“We have never seen such a quick and total collapse in the live event industry, as in many industries,” says National Consumers League vice president John Breyault. “But at the end of the day, we can’t lose sight that these are dire financial times for consumers.”
