ICYDK – Idaho Stops, Winter Weather Reveal, & Fred Meyer Strike

Did you know bicyclists are allowed to roll through stop signs in Oregon?  I didn’t know that.  The practice (which is called an “Idaho Stop”) has been allowed since 2019, and researchers at OSU have been studying it, and apparently, it only increases danger when people don’t know about it, so there you go.  Sorry if you just wanted to play dumb on that.

The Great Winter Weather Reveal has been shared by none other than the Old Farmer’s Almanac.  Here in the valley, thanks to the La Niña, we are going to be wetter and colder than in years past, with the brunt of it hitting in January and a few weeks on either side.  Other side of the mountains though, not nearly as much…  if you can believe old farmers.

And finally, it’s going down, thousands of Fred Meyer workers across the whole town are going on strike, starting today.  You’ll definitely see them out there.  Now, know that this isn’t linked to the proposed Fred Meyer/Albertsons merger thing, that’s separate, but you can expect this to last about a week.  What’s on your list today?  You’ll find it somewhere else this week.
