ICYDK – Smoky Skies, Jade Carey Returns, & Moda Center Sold
The air is gonna start going sour in the valley today, and it is the smoke from all the wildfires finally pushing west. And you can totally tell; my smart device bing-bonged me today to warn me about an air quality alert, which I ignored, like I always do… until I walked outside, and it feels wrong outside. If you’re sensitive to that, skip your jog. I know I will!
It’s not uncommon, once NW athletes get some recognition, for them to move to other places to chase their dream, but that’s not the case for Jade Carey, who will be returning to Corvallis for her senior year at Oregon State University. Great for the Beavers… rival school gymnastics programs probably not quite as stoked about that.
And finally, this was a surprise; the City of Portland is buying the Moda Center. It’s Paul Allen’s estate that owns it, and they’ll continue to own the Blazers, but the building and some of the land are being sold. There’s a lot of reasons for this, all of it tax & money-related, but the overall play should help with renovating the building, and keeping the Blazers here.
