J-Lo & Shakira to Pay Tribute to Kobe Bryant During Super Bowl Halftime Show

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are promising an empowering halftime show during this Sunday’s Super Bowl. “This Super Bowl, the two teams that are playing, the Chiefs and the 49ers are run by women, and then you got two women headlining the halftime show. That statement alone for me is empowering,” J-Lo said Thursday at a pre-show press event. “When I think of my daughter, when I think of all the little girls of the world, to be able to have that…Two Latinas doing this at this time in this country, it’s just very empowering for us. For me, I”m very proud to be able to set and put forth that message.”

The AP notes that J-Lo and Shakira’s performance will be the first time two Latinas headline a Super Bowl halftime show. The singers also said they will also be remembering Kobe Bryant during their performance. “I think we’ll all be remembering Kobe on Sunday and we’ll be celebrating life and celebrating diversity in this country,” Shakira said. “I’m sure he would be very proud to see the message that we’re going to try to convey on Sunday.”

Super Bowl LIV kicks off live on FOX this coming Sunday starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.
