MLK Jr. Day Volunteering Opportunities
Today is a day of commemoration for the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and the impact he made in this country, through his deeds, his words, and his works. His “I Have A Dream” Speech still echoes through our history, as we strive for a future filled with equality. It’s a day where we reflect how far we’ve come, how far we have to go, and what your role is in that.
It has also become a very popular day for volunteering, as modern citizens strive to make a positive impact on their community. If you’re interested in doing the same, here’s a list of volunteering opportunities you can take advantage of:
- MLK Day Clean Up: SOLVE is an organization that helps clean up litter in various locations around the state, and today, they are organizing at 4 different places downtown. You can register at this link.
- Blanchet House Care Kits: You can help put together personal hygiene or winter supplies care kits for people struggling with houselessness this January.
- MLK Day Volunteer Planting: Plant native trees and shrubs along the newly restored Gibbons Creek & Burnt Bridge Creek.
- Service Day at Smith & Bybee Wetlands: There will be planting and mulching at wetlands around Portland.
There is also a long list of organizations in need of donations that you can help out at PDXMonthly.com. Click here to see that list!
