New Legos Help Teach Braille
New Lego’s will help teach braille You won’t have to see to believe this. In fact, these new Lego bricks have been specifically manufactured for those who can’t see. More than 1 million Americans are legally blind but less than 10% can read braille – the National Federation for the Blind calls it a crisis. They say braille illiteracy means 70% of blind American adults are unemployed. To make matters worse, 90% of blind American children aren’t being taught the language.
CBS reports Lego decided to step in – rearranging the studs on specially made bricks to match braille letters, numbers, and symbols. The new learning tool is set to hit classrooms next year.
