Portland, Ore. – All southbound lanes of I-5 were shut down for about four hours following a deadly crash involving a pedestrian. Police say a Semi-truck struck a person near the Fremont Bridge just before 7pm last night. It’s not clear if this was a man or a woman who was hit. Officers say the pedestrian died at the scene. The driver stuck around and cooperated with the investigation.

On Thursday, October 3, 2019, at 6:48 p.m., North Precinct Officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck on Southbound I-5 at the Fremont Bridge. The pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The involved driver of the semi remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

All lanes of Southbound I-5 are closed at the Fremont Bridge and traffic is being diverted. The closure is expected to remain in effect for several hours while investigators gather evidence.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team is responding to take over the investigation.
