Ronnie Dunn Didn’t Realize He Sent Bobby His Contract For New Album
Brooks & Dunn announced their forthcoming collaboration project, REBOOT 2, out November 15th. It’s the follow-up to their REBOOT album that came out in 2019. For the first one, they had to keep everything between the lines and had little artistic freedom, which turned out great. But for the second one, there were no rules, and they let the 18 artists who would be on the project turn lose, especially since the record label gave them no budget to create the record.
Bobby Bones has not heard any of the album, but Dunn accidentally sent him the contract for it, which he did not realize until Bones told him. Bones saw all the intimate details of what Dunn would be making on the record, but he trusted Bones to not send it to anyone. “Rock My World (Little Country Girl)” will feature The Marcus King Band and Dunn said they turned it into a completely different animal. Jelly Roll will be on “Believe,” and he sings so passionately on it. There was a 60-string orchestra on the song. Dan Huff, who is one of the producers on the album helped put together the orchestra and it made Dunn emotional when he heard it.
On the first REBOOT, Kacey Musgraves sang “Neon Moon” and brought in her own band to record it. She created her own version of it; Dunn said it should’ve been on REBOOT 2 because on the new project everyone did their own versions of the songs. On the new project, Morgan Wallen will sing “Neon Moon,” and he wanted to stick with the original as much as he could but added a twist to it. The current single “Play Something Country” features Lainey Wilson. When her band came into the studio to record, they played a lick that was more like a ZZ Top sound than the original guitar lick in the song. When Wilson stepped up to the microphone, she had a lot more power than Dunn expected, and her version blew him away. Pretty much everyone who was asked agreed to do it, and Dunn pointed out Megan Moroney’s version of “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You” as a standout on the record.
Brooks & Dunn will go back out on the road next year to tour this record. He said touring is more fun than ever because there is no pressure and the crowds are crazier. Halfway through the show they will ask people if this is their first Brooks & Dunn show and half of the crowd raises their hands, so they are a new group to many people!
