Matt Damon and his family moved to the tiny seaside town of Dalkey, Ireland, earlier this year so he could shoot Ridley Scott’s upcoming movie, The Last Duel. Now they’re stuck there, but it seems neither Damon nor his new neighbors are complaining. The New York Times reports that the locals take pride in not making a big deal about his presence, while Damon has charmed them with his low-key, friendly demeanor. “I think it’s an Irish thing. We don’t want anyone who is a celebrity to think that we are in any way sycophantic,” says Irish novelist Denise Deegan, who lives there.

On a local Facebook page, a resident named Cornelius Hibernis O’Flaherty put it most poetically. “Dalkey is surrounded by the sea, and in these bright and sunny lockdown days with the air fresh and the birdsong everywhere, Matt and his family should be left alone to enjoy time out amidst the natural spring splendor,” he wrote.
