As a kid growing up we all came to recognize Smokey The Bear, we would see him walk around the state fair, county fairs and yes even at sporting events. Well, The true story of Smokey bear came to life as a black bear cub was rescued in 1950 from a forest fire in New Mexico, Forest Fire members found the cub and helped him survive.

Smokey The Bear is as recognizable as Santa Claus, Uncle Sam, and the Easter bunny, according to a style guide for his usage.   Smokey The Bear is turning 75 August 9th, and to celebrate the milestone  Keep Oregon Green is partnering with the U.S. Forest Service and Oregon Department of Forestry for a new state license plate design. The plates feature the iconic forestry mascot’s mug alongside the greenery of the state, and the words “Keep Oregon Green.”

These new license plates will be at the ODMVs on 8/1/2019!  You can buy a $40 voucher, which can be redeemed for the license plates through the ODMV. The plates will go into production once they reach their goal of 3,000 vouchers sold.
