It’s a yearly battle, but because I feel so passionate about it, I don’t mind fighting the fight…

Christmas season starts the day after Halloween.  Full stop.  Roll credits.

The common refrain is that we need to take the time to honor Thanksgiving and give it its proper due.  So the oppressors will start getting uppity when they see Christmas decorations being sold at Costco, or Christmas music overhead at Fred Meyer, or Christmas lights up on people’s homes.  And y’know what?  I almost see your point.  I get it.  I understand that you don’t want to miss out on any important holidays and opportunities to create memories with your family.  I hear you.  Deal with things one at a time.

Except…

Thanksgiving doesn’t have decorations.  Or music.  Or any important icons to speak of.  So SHUSH about it.

When I say “Thanksgiving decorations,” what comes into your head?  A cartoon turkey wearing a pilgrim hat?  A horn-of-plenty with fruit spilling out of it?  K.  Anything else?  That’s it?  What kind of music do I play to celebrate Thanksgiving?  The Thanksgiving Song by Adam Sandler?  Great.  Done.

Anything else?  No?

K, then go do that.  Christmas is my jam.  Nothing is more festive feeling than the red & green hues of Christmas decorations.  I LOVE O, Holy Night.  I want to hear jingle bells, and I want to think about buying and getting presents.  You can do your thing; I won’t say anything about it.  But don’t be a Grinch.
