Many people with seasonal allergies are struggling right now, including both my boys and myself! we are going thru tissues like crazy and feel trapped in a vicious cycle of coughing, sneezing, wheezing, and itching.
If this sounds like you, you might be wondering what’s going on. This allergy season is particularly brutal, and your symptoms just seem worse because you were inside and not exposed to many allergens in spring 2020?
According to allergists, it’s not just you. allergies are worse this year. Here’s the deal — and how to find some relief:
Climate change and the pandemic are playing a huge role, The rising temps and increasing CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere are making pollen seasons heavier and longer. Allergy season is now 10 days longer than it was in 1990, and trees, grass, and weeds are producing 21% more pollen. More pollen means more runny noses, watery eyes, and itchy throats.
Tip # 1, Wearing a large gardening hat also helps with teh sun beating on your head and sunglasses help keep pollen out of your eyes and nose.
Tip # 2, Wash your hands and face after being outdoors for long periods of time, and consider changing your clothes,”
Tip # 3, A Nice cool shower is a great relief and something we do every day after spending time outside to clean off.
Tip # 4, Look into purchasing a HEPA air filter to purify the air in your house. And pets can be pollen magnets, so giving “them a good rub down is a good idea after a springtime walk,
Tip # 5, Look into purchasing one of those cooling neck gators, you can pick them up at lots of stores, I grabbed mine at Home Depot to pull up over your nose,
If your symptoms persist or worsen, obviously give your doctor or allergist a call. There are lots of over-the-counter allergy medications and sprays that can alleviate your symptoms
