Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Wednesday after being found guilty last month of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree. NPR reports that Judge James Burke’s decision includes a 20-year sentence for the criminal sexual act charge and three years for the third-degree rape charge. Weinstein’s lawyers, who stood by his side as the decision was handed down, had been asking for a five-year sentence, arguing that he would likely die in prison otherwise.

It was previously reported that he could’ve faced a sentence as high as 29 years.
