ICYDK – Gervais Schools Closing, Milk Carton Boat Race, & A New Apple

The Gervais School District might have to shut down next year if they don’t get some money.  The high school and the elementary school both need some massive updates, and the middle school doesn’t even exist.  They’ve tried to get residents to vote for a bond 8 times before, and if they vote no one more time, the school district is done-zo.  That’s 900 kids bussing somewhere else.

The Milk Carton Boat Race is coming back this summer at Westmoreland Park.  Boats must be made out of recycled milk cartons or recycled milk jugs, and sign-ups are being accepted by the Royal Rosarians as of now.  The race is on June 23rd this year, but if you’re lactose intolerant, I’m sure you can find something else to do that day.

And finally, Wazzu has got a new species of apple that’s a cross between the Honeycrisp and the Pink Lady, that they say is better than both.  It’s actually 20 years old, but it needs a name, so they’re letting the public name it, which you know what always happens; be looking on produce shelves near you, the new, Apple McAppleFace.
