ICYDK – Teacher Strike Coming, Giant Pumpkin Regatta, & Squishin’ Squash At The Zoo

Parents of students in the Portland School District…  some inconvenient times might be ahead.  The Portland Association of Teachers did vote to authorize a strike yesterday, and if they do it, and it looks likely, it’ll start November 1st.  And schools will close if they do it.  Cross your fingers for a miracle.

This weekend will see one of Tualatin’s most famous events, the Giant Pumpkin Regatta takes place in the Lake Of The Commons in the middle of town.  Giant pumpkins are hollowed out and raced across the lake?  Is it ridiculous?  Yes.  Is it also so much fun?  Yes.  The event is on Sunday.

Great respect for pumpkins in Tualatin, no respect at the Oregon Zoo.  The annual Squishing Of The Squash took place yesterday.  Plenty of onlookers were on hand to watch the elephant population smash pumpkins and eat them.  Cute when they do it, less cute when the hooligans in my neighborhood do it.
