Joey Chestnut Wins Hot Dog Eating Contest…Again
In a world of champions, Joey Chestnut certainly qualifies…but don’t count on seeing him on a Wheaties Box cover anytime soon. Joey “Jaws” Chestnut and Miki Sudo defended their respective titles at this year’s Nathan’s Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest. Chestnut put away a whopping 71 beef logs during Thursday’s competition, three shy of his 2018 record in the men’s division. “I’m a little disappointed, but I got to win. I annihilated the competition,” the 35-year-old told reporters afterward.
In the women’s division, Sudo–who’s also Chestnut’s girlfriend–earned her sixth consecutive title by chomping down 31 hot dogs. While she fell short of her total last year of 37 frankfurters, she easily beat runner-up Michelle Lesco, who wolfed down 26 hot dogs. Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas holds the women’s record of 45 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
