Well that’s way more than I thought!

A few weeks ago, they came out with a study that described the minimum amount you need to survive in Portland.  It was around $60K, which is already an astonishing amount to require just to survive and keep a roof over your head in this city.  For those people lucky enough to exceed that amount in salary, they’re able to have the little things.  Extra guacamole at Chipotle, for instance.  But that’s about it.  $60K is enough to eat, sleep, and put a little away.  But the true luxuries in life remain out of reach for the average Oregonian (we tend to make $55K).

Which is why this story is such a blow!  According to reports, to attain “happiness,” you need to to make $138K/year.  Happiness is kind of a nebulous prospect here, but I presume it means you don’t really need to worry about money to do what you want to do.

So here’s the bright side…  if you are managing to be happy on your regular-person salary?  Congratulations!  You are doing life better than most!
