Report: It’s “Game On” over Carrie Underwood’s “Sunday Night Football” theme
Singer/songwriter Heidi Merrill is suing Carrie Underwood over her 2018 Sunday Night Football theme, according to TMZ.
Merrill claims she pitched her song “Game On” to Carrie’s frequent producer, Mark Bright, in August of 2017, but was told Carrie passed on the song.
Carrie’s new NFL theme premiered in the fall of 2018, and also happened to be called “Game On.” The track was written by Carrie with noted songwriters Chris Destefano and Brett James.
While Mark Bright has worked on Carrie’s albums dating back to her 2005 debut, Some Hearts, it’s worth noting that he hasn’t been a part of her most recent studio work. Carrie co-produced her 2018 album, Cry Pretty, with David Garcia.
Does Carrie’s song copy Merrill’s? You can judge for yourself, since versions of both are available on YouTube.
So far, neither Carrie nor the NFL have spoken out about the claim.
Carrie’s sung the Sunday Night Football theme on NBC since 2013 and is set to return for her seventh season this fall.
