What Is A Number Neighbor?

The internet never stops coming up with time-wasting challenges.  The latest viral sensation is the number neighbors challenge.  Not everyone understands what number neighbors are, and can take the whole thing the wrong way. So allow me to clarify for you.  Number neighbor refers to the phone numbers that are one digit away from yours, and people are texting their neighbors so they can post screenshots of the conversations online.

It might sound cool at first, but it could lead to unwanted consequences.  Obviously, texting strangers isn’t the safest thing to do.  Sometimes it can turn into a funny conversation, like when singer Bebe Rexha tried it:

But other attempts have led to some pretty amazing interactions, like this number neighbor who pretended to be an automated answering service for a hotel:
